From Twitter to Gnu Social
When publishing content in the internet I decided to have the choice between two categories:
- short text/message (https://twitter.com/leosos)
- more detailed text (this blog)
Why I chose Twitter as short message service? I can’t remember. Maybe it was simply there and I wanted to try it out?
The last days some users complained that accessing content via Twitter homepage without logging in is a mess. So I began searching for alternative services. I ended up with GNU social (https://gnu.io/social/) which is some kind of decentralized open source clone of twitter.
Advantages of GNU social:
- decentralized and open source
- you can follow people from some other social networks (e.g diaspora)
- reduced complexity
- RSS feed (in contrast to Twitter)
- pushing new posts to other social networks (e.g. Twitter)
My new GNU social account is https://quitter.se/leosos . All new (short) content can be found there. In addition all new messages are pushed to my Twitter account at the moment. Maybe this will change later.
I will soon deactivate my Twitter RSS feed. When visiting https://quitter.se/leosos you can find the new RSS feeds (RSS 1.0, 2.0, Atom). For example http://quitter.se/api/statuses/user_timeline/184954.rss
