Why I Am No Fan of Googles Stock Android

Some weeks ago I was buying a Jolla Phone because in Google’s universe there was to much tracking and advertising und only less privacy. Let’s give an example.

I had a Nexus4 phone with stock Android 5 installed. It is a very nice phone with good hardware. I gave this phone to another person which was happy to have some kind of “newer” phone. Some days ago we meat again and talked about the phone and android settings. When talking about privacy we checked settings in their Android phone. And now the (not so) big suprise:

  • all wifi passwords where saved in the google cloud automatically
  • all contacts were transfered into cloud, too

This is the point where I say: Google is evil. For me and many many other people automatically uploading private data into the cloud is a worst case. But Google’s way is another one. Why is there no dialog asking to save wifi password? Why does an automatic vcf import uploads contacts into the cloud by default? All this behaviour can eb changed but you need to know where these settings can be found. Even I was searching three minutes to find all the options and deactivate them. That’s really bad.

These are some of the reasons I switched from Android to Sailfish OS.
